Motichoor Laddoo

Motichoor Laddoo is one of the most celebrated mithai from India. Initially I thought it would be very difficult, lengthy and messy procedure to make the boondis and the laddoo. But it is not, I learnt this recipe from my neighbors grandmom who is an awesome cook. Making this laddoo was on my mind since quite some time. Finally tried my hand on it.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Besan/Gram Flour: 150 gms
  • Rice Flour: 1 tblspn
  • Yellow/Orange Food Color:  2 pinch (optional)
  • Sugar: 3/4th Cup
  • Water: 3/4th Cup
  • Cardamom Powder: 1 tspn
  • Dry Fruits: ½ Cup ( I used pistachios and raisins)

Method:

  • Mix Besan, Rice flour and food Color.
  • Add around ½ a cup of water to it. Mix everything well. Keep adding little water while mixing until you get a thick free fall consistency as shown in the pic above.
  • Heat Oil in a kadhai or pan. The oil shuldnt be very hot.
  • We need to use a spoon with holes(we call it jhaara) to make boondi. Hold the jhara over oil. Pour in besan over it with the help of another spoon.  (I use one serving spoon at a time for one round of boondi). Try to move the jhaara all over the oil, so that the boondis don’t stick to one another.
  • Keep stiiring the boondis for couple of seconds, remove from oil, once they are done.
  • Make boondis from rest of all the besan.
  • Keep the this aside.
  • Boil water to it add sugar and cardamom powder.
  • Make Chasni until one taar consistency. (It should stick between your fingers)
  • Add all the boondi in chaasni  and mix well. Keep this aside for 10 mins.
  • Strain boondi removing extra chasni.
  • Now Grind Coarsely boondi in a chopper.
  • Add dry fruits and mix everything well.
  • Finally make laddoos, taking fistful of boondis and pressing them hard.
  • Let the laddos cool before having them.
